The incident happened in the Tarrem area when a joint team of security personnel was returning from an anti-Naxalite operation. Two Special Task Force (STF) personnel were killed, and four others were injured in an IED attack by Maoists in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Wednesday night, according to police.
The operation, which started on Tuesday, involved STF, District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and its elite unit CoBRA. These teams were acting on intelligence about Naxal presence from Darbha and West Bastar divisions and military company no. 2, said the Bijapur police in a statement.
As the personnel were returning, the Maoists attacked them with an IED. The two personnel killed were identified as Bharat Sahu from Raipur and Satyer Singh Kange from Narayanpur district.
Additional security forces have been sent to the area, and proper treatment is being arranged for the injured STF personnel. Last month, six Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Narayanpur district, Chhattisgarh. This encounter on June 6 was the biggest attack by security forces on People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army company no. 6, a key Naxalite force. The Maoists reportedly had a total bounty of ₹38 lakh on them, according to police.
