Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that his government has created many new job opportunities, countering opposition claims about unemployment. He remarked that opposition parties are out of touch with the youth and the changes happening in the country.
In an interview with NDTV’s Editor-in-Chief Sanjay Pugalia, the Prime Minister discussed various topics, including his plans for the future, infrastructure development, the BJP’s prospects in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, and foreign policy.
Addressing the opposition’s allegations on unemployment, PM Modi highlighted that numerous new job opportunities have emerged under his government. He noted that the extensive infrastructure projects undertaken, like road construction and railway electrification, require significant manpower, thereby creating jobs. “Spending money alone doesn’t build roads or electrify railways; you need people for that, which means employment opportunities are created. I don’t see any truth in the opposition’s claims about unemployment,” he said.
PM Modi argued that dynastic parties cannot grasp the changes happening among the youth. He pointed out that the number of startups has grown from a few hundred before 2014 to 1.25 lakh today, each employing many young people. Additionally, there are now 100 unicorns, representing businesses worth ₹8 lakh crore, driven by young people aged 20-25.
The Prime Minister also mentioned advancements in the gaming sector, predicting that India will become a leader in this field, driven by young people aged 20-22. He highlighted the shift from an entertainment economy to a creative economy, expressing confidence that India’s creators will capture a large share of the global market.
PM Modi emphasized the growth in green jobs and the aviation sector. He noted the increase in the number of airports from 70 to 150 and mentioned that an order for 1,000 new planes will create many jobs. He criticized those who rely on outdated perspectives, stating that the current narrative on unemployment is pushed by people who only know how things were 30 years ago.
Citing data to support his claims, PM Modi referred to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), which showed that unemployment has halved. He also mentioned that 6 crore new jobs have been created in the last six to seven years, according to the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation. He underscored his efforts to promote government jobs, while criticizing the opposition for their continued focus on employment issues.
