A Member of Parliament from Bangladesh, named Anwarul Azim Anar, was believed to be killed in Kolkata. He was skinned and chopped up in an apartment, then his body parts were put into plastic bags and scattered around the city. Anar disappeared on May 13, a day after he came to Kolkata.
The West Bengal CID (Criminal Investigation Department) found a big lead in the case. They arrested Jihad Hawaldar, an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh living in Mumbai. He confessed to being involved in the murder and chopping up Anar’s body in a Kolkata apartment in Newtown.
The crime was carefully planned. Hawaldar said the main planner was Akhtaruzzaman, a Bangladeshi-American. Hawaldar and four others suffocated and killed the MP on Akhtaruzzaman’s orders.
Bangladesh’s Home Minister, Asaduzzaman Khan, confirmed Anar’s murder and said three people were arrested.
The CID discovered bloodstains and plastic bags in the Newtown apartment, likely used to dispose of the body parts. Police believe the MP was strangled first, then cut into pieces.
Hawaldar revealed disturbing details. After killing Anar, they removed his skin, flesh, and bones. They minced the flesh to prevent identification, packed everything into plastic bags, and scattered them across Kolkata.
Police are working to find the rest of Anar’s body parts.
