The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR concerning alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 examination, reported PTI, citing officials. This action follows the Centre’s announcement of a probe into the alleged malpractices. Nearly 24 lakh students had appeared for the NEET-UG 2024 exam held last month.
A re-examination for several medical aspirants took place today, prompted by the reported irregularities. The Union education ministry’s reference led to the CBI filing a fresh case against unidentified individuals. A senior official from the ministry stated, “Certain cases of alleged irregularities, cheating, impersonation, and malpractice have been reported in NEET-UG which was conducted on May 5. For transparency in the examination process, it was decided after a review that the matter be handed over to the CBI for a comprehensive investigation.”
The re-examination saw the debarment of seventeen candidates from centres in Bihar due to detected malpractice, according to the National Testing Agency (NTA). Of the 1,563 students eligible for the re-examination, 52% attended. Previously, 63 candidates were debarred nationwide for malpractices, including 17 from Bihar and 30 from Godhra.
The CBI’s investigation aims to examine the irregularities from various angles, including the potential involvement of public servants and any connections to a larger conspiracy, as reported by NDTV. Special investigative teams are already en route to Godhra and Patna, where local police have registered cases of question paper leaks. The CBI has prioritized this investigation, with special teams dispatched to key locations.
