Tech-savvy scammers are finding it easier to target people as machine learning and artificial intelligence become a bigger part of our daily lives. Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting smartphone users with fake calls and texts. They even create fake websites to trick people with convincing graphics. India’s cyber agency, Cyberdost, has warned about a new scam targeting iPhone users. According to Cyberdost, scammers send messages via iMessage, telling users that a package cannot be delivered because of a wrong address.
Cyberdost tweeted: “New Transnational #Scam Alert: #iPhone users are receiving scam messages via #iMessage about packages from random accounts. Avoid clicking suspicious links and disable read receipts for these messages.” The scam message urges users to respond within 24 hours to avoid the parcel being returned and includes a web link. Cyberdost warns that this is a scam and clicking the link could make you a victim. They advise reporting these messages and not clicking on suspicious links. Also, please don’t share your bank account information or send money to unknown individuals.
Tips to Avoid This Scam:
– Do not click on links in suspicious messages.
– Disable read receipts for messages from unknown senders.
– Legitimate companies will not pressure you to respond urgently or threaten to return a package.
– Never share your bank account information or send money to unknown individuals.
– Report such messages to the authorities if you encounter them.
By following these tips, iPhone users can protect themselves from falling for this phishing scam.
