The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for several regions in Andhra Pradesh, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next five days. The alert covers north-coastal Andhra Pradesh, south-coastal AP, and Rayalaseema, as a cyclonic circulation over the eastern coast intensifies weather conditions.
According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation located over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha is influencing weather patterns over the eastern coast of India. This system, extending up to 5.8km above mean sea level, has begun shifting southwestwards with increased intensity. It has absorbed a previous circulation over the West Central Bay of Bengal, amplifying rainfall prospects across Andhra Pradesh. The weather forecast from July 14 to July 18 outlines specific warnings for each day. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in isolated areas of north-coastal AP (NCAP), south-coastal AP (SCAP), and Rayalaseema on the initial days. Thunderstorms and lightning are anticipated across these regions, accompanied by strong surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h. Similar weather conditions are projected to persist throughout the forecast period, posing risks of heavy rainfall and associated weather phenomena.
As Andhra Pradesh braces for prolonged heavy rainfall, authorities and residents in the warned regions are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. The IMD’s detailed forecast highlights the potential for localized flooding, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across NCAP, SCAP, Rayalaseema, and Yanam. Continued monitoring of weather updates and adherence to safety guidelines will be crucial in mitigating risks and ensuring community resilience during this period of heightened weather activity.
