MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings teammate Deepak Chahar feels the former Indian captain can still play two more IPL seasons. Chahar made these remarks despite growing rumours that Dhoni’s final IPL season could be in 2024.
IPL 2024: Despite growing rumours that IPL 2024 will be his final season, Deepak Chahar, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings colleague, believes the great cricketer still has the prowess and physical endurance to play two more seasons in the IPL.
Many saw IPL 2023 as Dhoni’s final season with CSK, especially given the favourable circumstances surrounding the 42-year-old leading his team to a record-equalling fifth championship triumph. However, Dhoni told his massive fan base that he will appear in the forthcoming IPL 2024 as a way to thank them for their continued support.
Since then, many have weighed in on the rumour that the batter may finally call it quits on his historic IPL career in the forthcoming season.
This is what Chahar has to say about MS Dhoni
While discussing with former Indian cricketer turned analyst Aakash Chopra on his YouTube video, Chahar emphasised that Dhoni has demonstrated multiple times in IPL 2023 that he still possesses the same lethalness as previously. “In T20s, you retire when you believe 140 kmph is too fast. Last year, you saw MS Dhoni hitting sixes at 145 kmph, and we see that in the nets as well,” Chahar added in the video.
Chahar went on to say that Dhoni is focused on playing this season, and whatever happens after is up to the CSK skipper. “He’ll play this year. I believe he will decide after this season. I personally believe he can play for two years.
Here’s a sneak peak to Dhoni’s IPL Performance in 2023
During CSK’s victorious IPL 2023 campaign, Dhoni played 16 games but only scored 104 runs, with a strike rate of 182.46 in a few of them. Many former cricketers and fans have expressed doubts about Dhoni’s chances of continuing to play after this season, referring to his full absence from the game since the IPL 2023 final.
However, MS Dhoni’s fans want the same greatness from their ‘Thala’, despite his numbers suggesting the opposite way.
While Dhoni is anticipated to focus on leading the team rather than batting in the coming season, his leadership and presence on the field will remain critical for the 5-time champions.
