CSpace’s decision to exclusively stream films already released in theaters indicates a strategic move that safeguards the film industry’s interests. The launch of the government-owned OTT platform, ‘CSpace,’ in Kerala has been hailed as a significant milestone in the progression of Malayalam Cinema by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. In his address at the inauguration of CSpace, managed by the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), the Chief Minister emphasized the platform’s focus on showcasing films of artistic and cultural value while coexisting with mainstream cinema. Unlike other OTT platforms that prioritize commercial movies, CSpace aims to distinguish itself as a platform that champions quality cinema, according to the Chief Minister. Furthermore, the Chief Minister highlighted that CSpace’s decision to stream only post-theatrical release films is a strategic choice aimed at supporting good cinema without compromising the interests of film producers and exhibitors. Culture Minister Saji Cherian lauded the platform’s launch as in alignment with the government’s commitment to fostering art and supporting artists from diverse backgrounds. CSpace will feature films that have received recognition through state, national, and international awards. Shaji N Karun, the Chairman of KSFDC and a renowned director, described CSpace as an innovative initiative designed to assist producers in recovering their investments through crowd-funding. Noteworthy features of the platform include transparent revenue-sharing models and operations. In its initial phase, CSpace has selected 42 films for streaming, comprising 35 feature films, six documentaries, and one short film. The platform will also showcase films that have garnered national or state awards and those exhibited at major film festivals. Another key aspect of CSpace is its transparent revenue-sharing system, where half of the viewer’s payment goes directly to the content provider. The platform operates on a pay-per-view basis, allowing viewers to access feature films for ₹75 and shorter content at a lower price point. Viewers can easily download the CSpace app from both the Play Store and the App Store for seamless access to the platform.
