Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) celebrated their third IPL title after a commanding victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 final. With this win, KKR moves closer to the record held by five-time champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
KKR showed consistent performance throughout the season, beating SRH three times, including the decisive final. SRH captain Pat Cummins chose to bat first after winning the toss, hoping to set a challenging target. However, this strategy backfired as SRH struggled with the pitch and suffered a severe batting collapse.
Mitchell Starc set the tone by dismissing Abhishek Sharma in the first over, followed by Rahul Tripathi in the next, putting SRH on the back foot. Andre Russell then took three crucial wickets—Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, and Pat Cummins—further crippling SRH’s chances. SRH was all out for just 113, marking the lowest score in IPL finals history.
In response, KKR’s chase started with an early loss of Sunil Narine for 6. However, Venkatesh Iyer’s explosive batting quickly turned the game in KKR’s favor. He scored an unbeaten 52 off 26 balls, leading KKR to victory in just 10.3 overs.
After the match, KKR showed sportsmanship by posting a message on social media praising SRH. “Respect for @SunRisers. One bad game doesn’t define the exceptional season you’ve had in any way. Some unforgettable performances, and a top #TATAIPL2024 season for the men in orange,” KKR posted on X.
KKR’s triumphant season and their respectful message to SRH highlight the spirit of the game and their dominance in IPL 2024.
