Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has told his party workers to prepare for mid-term Lok Sabha elections that could happen soon. Speaking on Friday, Lalu Prasad predicted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi could collapse by August. He urged RJD members to stay alert and ready for the possibility of elections at any time.
Lalu Prasad emphasized that the Modi government in Delhi is currently weak and might not last long. His remarks were made during an event marking his party’s foundation day. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 240 seats but fell short of the majority mark of 272. They formed the government with support from allies like JD(U) and TDP, securing PM Modi’s third consecutive term.
Since Modi’s third term began, many opposition leaders have predicted that his government won’t survive for long. Lalu Prasad’s latest statement has added weight to these claims.
In Bihar, the ruling JD(U) is allied with the BJP both at the national and state levels. However, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized JD(U), accusing them of compromising their principles by joining forces with the BJP just to stay in power. Tejashwi highlighted RJD’s performance in the recent elections, noting that their vote share increased while the NDA’s decreased.
Tejashwi asserted that RJD stands firm against BJP and remains committed to its principles. He emphasized that being in power is not their main goal but rather fighting for the rights of the underprivileged. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, RJD won 4 seats, and their alliance won a total of 9 seats.
The Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the NDA, has faced criticism following the collapse of several bridges in the state recently. While authorities blame heavy rains, the opposition has pointed fingers at alleged corruption in governance.
Overall, Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav’s statements reflect their party’s readiness for potential elections and their stance against the current ruling coalition in both Bihar and at the national level.
