Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his visit to Russia on Monday, July 8. He received a Guard of Honour upon his arrival in Moscow. During his two-day visit, PM Modi will participate in the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This visit is significant as it marks Modi’s first trip to Russia since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in February 2022.
After concluding his activities in Russia, PM Modi will travel to Austria from July 9 to 10. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria in 41 years. In Austria, PM Modi plans to meet with President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Karl Nehammer to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new areas of cooperation.
During his time in Russia, PM Modi will engage in strategic dialogues, including private meetings with President Putin, delegation-level talks, and visits to important sites like the Rosatom Pavilion at the VDNKH Complex. The discussions will cover various aspects of bilateral relations, including economic ties, regional security issues, and global concerns of mutual interest.
Ahead of the visit, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the growth in India-Russia economic relations and expressed optimism about the summit providing an opportunity for Modi and Putin to discuss and strengthen their countries’ partnership.
Overall, Modi’s visit underscores the enduring strength of the India-Russia strategic relationship amid current global geopolitical dynamics.
