Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Austria and held talks with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer at the Federal Chancellery in Vienna. This visit, Modi’s first to Austria in over 40 years, follows his recent trip to Russia.
During their meeting, both leaders discussed the strong historical ties between India and Austria, dating back to the 1950s. Chancellor Nehammer highlighted India’s assistance to Austria during critical times, such as the negotiations leading to the Austrian State Treaty in 1955.
They also addressed current global challenges, including the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and issues in the Middle East. Chancellor Nehammer expressed Austria’s interest in understanding India’s perspective on these matters and emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi was welcomed with a ceremonial Guard of Honour upon his arrival in Vienna and also met with members of the Indian community there. His visit aims to strengthen diplomatic relations and explore opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.
