On May 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially entered the electoral race by filing his nomination papers from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. Varanasi, a constituency that PM Modi has secured twice in the past, is set to vote in the final phase of the General Elections on June 1. As the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) and the candidate representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Modi aims to retain his position for a third consecutive term.
In the upcoming elections, PM Modi faces competition from several candidates, including Ajai Rai from the Congress party and Athar Ali Lari from the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP). Notably, comedian Shyam Rangeela, renowned for his comedic impressions of Prime Minister Modi, has announced his intention to contest the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from the Varanasi seat. However, as of now, Rangeela has not filed his nomination for the seat.
Prior to filing his nomination papers, PM Modi embarked on a spiritual journey, seeking blessings at Varanasi’s revered Dashashwamedh Ghat, situated on the banks of the Ganges. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accompanied him during this auspicious visit. Additionally, PM Modi paid homage at the Kaal Bhairav Temple, a significant religious site in Varanasi.
The decision to contest from Varanasi underscores PM Modi’s commitment to serving the constituents of the region. His previous victories in 2014 and 2019 reflect the trust and support bestowed upon him by the people of Varanasi. By filing his nomination, PM Modi reaffirms his dedication to representing the aspirations and interests of the electorate in the Lok Sabha.
As the electoral campaign gains momentum, Varanasi emerges as a focal point of political discourse, attracting attention from across the nation. With PM Modi seeking re-election from this historic constituency, the contest intensifies, setting the stage for a riveting electoral battle in the final phase of the General Elections.
The participation of diverse candidates, including a comedian known for his mimicry of the Prime Minister, adds a unique dimension to the electoral landscape in Varanasi. However, PM Modi remains undeterred, poised to defend his record and articulate his vision for the constituency’s development and prosperity.
As the countdown to the polls begins, all eyes are on Varanasi, where the fate of political contenders will be decided by the discerning electorate. The forthcoming elections hold immense significance, shaping the trajectory of governance and leadership at the national level.
