Manorama Khedkar, mother of trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar, was arrested by Pune Police after a viral video showed her pointing a pistol at farmers during a land dispute in Mulshi village, Pune district. She was accused of possessing an illegal firearm. The video, which caused public outrage, showed her demanding land documents from a farmer and waving gun at him.
After the video went viral, Pune Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against her and her husband, Dilip Khedkar, a retired administrative officer. Manorama was hiding in a lodge near Raigad Fort when she was arrested.
Dilip Khedkar has a history of corruption charges and was suspended twice during his career. In 2018, he was suspended for allegedly demanding bribes from sawmill and timber merchants in Kolhapur. He faced another suspension in 2020 for similar allegations.
Puja Khedkar, who secured an all-India rank of 841 in the 2023 UPSC exam, is also facing controversies. She has been accused of making false claims in her UPSC application, such as representing herself as an OBC candidate and claiming false mental disabilities. There are also allegations of her misusing power by using a red beacon, VIP number plates, and a government sticker on her private Audi sedan.
