Telangana’s Grandmaster Raja Rithvik has clinched the silver medal at the prestigious La Plagne International Chess Tournament in France, marking a significant achievement in his burgeoning career. Competing against 184 players from 22 countries, Rithvik’s stellar performance included an unbeaten streak over nine rounds, securing seven points and placing him among the top contenders.
Raja Rithvik, originally ranked ninth at the start of the tournament, displayed exceptional strategic prowess throughout the competition. His impressive record of five wins and four draws earned him a tie for the silver medal alongside GM Iniyan Panneerselvam, both accumulating seven points. However, Rithvik’s superior tie-break score secured him the second-place finish, just half a point behind the tournament’s winner, GM Moussard Jules from France, who scored 7.5 points. Trained under the guidance of N. Rama Raju at RACE Chess Academy and receiving online coaching from Alexander Goloshchapov of Ukraine, Rithvik’s dedication to the sport and rigorous training regimen has proven instrumental to his success. Apart from his recent international achievement, Rithvik has also distinguished himself in national competitions, including a silver in the 2024 National Blitz Championship and a bronze in the National Rapid Championship earlier this year.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of Telangana and K.S. Prasad, President of the Telangana State Chess Association, have extended their congratulations to Raja Rithvik for his outstanding performance at the La Plagne tournament. The silver medal not only underscores Rithvik’s talent and commitment but also positions him as a promising contender in the international chess arena. As he continues to hone his skills and pursue excellence, Rithvik’s achievements serve as a source of pride and inspiration for the chess community in Telangana and beyond.
