Tata Electronics Private Limited will establish a ₹ 27,000 crore semiconductor facility in Assam.
1. On Wednesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with businessman Ratan Tata and expressed gratitude for Tata’s proposed ₹ 27,000 crore semiconductor plant in the state.
2. The Tata semiconductor factory at Morigaon’s Jagiroad will place us on the global semiconductor map and revolutionise East India’s economic landscape, according to Mr Sarma, who met with Mr Tata and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran in Mumbai.
3. “On behalf of the people of Assam, I expressed our sincere gratitude to Shri Ratan Tata and Shri N Chandrasekharan for demonstrating extraordinary conviction and faith in our state to carry out this major game-changing initiative. “We expect the first chips to be available by 2025,” Mr Sarma wrote on X, tagging Mr Tata and Mr Chandrasekaran.
4. During the discussion, Mr Sarma also suggested establishing a Skill Development Centre on the site of the semiconductor facility in Morigaon’s Jagiroad.
5. Mr. Sarma further stated that the Skill Development Centre will empower adolescents from the North East by providing training in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, as well as assisting them in obtaining jobs at the Jagiroad unit.
6. “Already, 1,500 adolescents from Assam, mostly women, are undergoing training at Tata facilities in and around Bangalore. “This will put them in a leadership position once the semiconductor facility is operational in 2025,” he stated.
7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke ground on the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) plant in Morigaon last week.
8. Tata Electronics Private Limited is establishing the facility using the Modified Scheme for Semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP).
