The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather bulletin on May 27, predicting severe heatwave conditions in several states. Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh will experience extreme heat until May 27, with a gradual decrease expected afterward. Heatwave conditions are also forecasted for Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttar Pradesh until May 30, and in Madhya Pradesh and Jammu until May 29.
Gujarat will face hot and humid weather until May 31, and Bihar will experience similar conditions on May 28. Additionally, warm night temperatures are likely in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi from May 27 to 31, and in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh on May 27 and 28.
In other weather news, Cyclonic Storm “Remal” made landfall on May 26, affecting coastal Bangladesh and West Bengal. The IMD predicts heavy rainfall in these areas as a result.
For West Bengal, light to moderate rain is expected in most areas, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in the eastern districts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on May 27 and 28.
Northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura, will also see light to moderate rain with heavy to very heavy downpours on May 27 and 28. Extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated on May 28 in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh. Squally winds, reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h, are expected in Assam and Meghalaya until noon on May 28.
The IMD advises residents in affected areas to stay prepared for these weather conditions and take necessary precautions.
