Amidst strained relations between India and the Maldives, the tourism minister of the island nation has made an appeal to Indian tourists. The Maldives heavily relies on tourism for its economy, but the number of Indian visitors has been decreasing recently. In an interview with PTI Videos, Maldivian Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal highlighted the long-standing friendly ties between the two countries.
Faisal stressed the importance of cooperation between India and the Maldives, expressing a desire for collaboration between the two governments. He assured that the Maldives always promotes peace and a welcoming atmosphere for Indian tourists. The minister urged Indians to consider visiting the Maldives to support its tourism sector, which plays a vital role in the country’s economy.
Tensions arose between the two nations after some Maldivian officials made derogatory remarks about India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media. This came after Modi shared photos and videos of the scenic Lakshadweep Islands on India’s west coast.
