Six people are missing after a boat overturned in the Ujani Dam near Kalashi village in Maharashtra. The incident happened on Tuesday evening near Indapur Tahseel in Pune district, about 140 km from the city. Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on site.
Seven people were on the boat. One person managed to swim to safety and alert others. Local villagers and rescue teams quickly arrived to help. Pune superintendent of police, Pankaj Deshmukh, said the search operation is going on.
At the time of the incident, there was a thunderstorm with strong winds, which caused the boat to capsize. The boat was regularly used to ferry locals across the water. Police now believe the six missing people have likely drowned.
