The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is doing searches in different places in Ranchi. They found a lot of cash with the household help of Sanjiv Lal, who works for Jharkhand’s rural development minister Alamgir Alam. This is linked to the Virendra Ram case.
Virendra Ram was arrested in February 2023. He was the chief engineer at the Jharkhand Rural Development Department. The ED arrested him for a money laundering case linked to suspected irregularities in certain schemes.
The ED conducted raids in Ranchi and found ₹25 crore of unaccounted cash. These raids were under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). They targeted about six places connected to Virendra Ram and his close group.
The raids showed a large pile of currency notes in a room said to belong to the domestic aide of Sanjiv Lal, the personal secretary to Jharkhand Rural Development minister Alamgir Alam.
The BJP spokesperson in Jharkhand, Pratul Shahdev, said, “Corruption is not stopping in Jharkhand. This money during elections suggests it might be used in the elections. The Election Commission should take action.”
The ED is doing raids at nine places at the same time, including Sail City in Ranchi. One team is looking for Vikas Kumar, an engineer from the Road Construction Department. Another team is searching in the Bariatu, Morhabadi, and Bodia areas.
