Rishi Sunak admitted defeat after many Conservative cabinet members lost their seats, making the Tory loss evident. The Labour Party won the UK general election, gaining over 326 seats, which is enough for a majority in the House of Commons.
Keir Starmer will be the next prime minister of Britain with his Labour Party expected to have a large majority, ending 14 years of Conservative rule.
Indian-origin Suella Braverman, who faced criticism for her immigration remarks, won in the newly created Fareham and Waterlooville constituency. She defeated Labour’s Gemma Furnivall by over 6,000 votes. After her victory, Braverman apologized to the public for the Conservative Party’s poor performance over the past 14 years, admitting that the party had failed to fulfill its promises and had taken voters’ support for granted.
“You, the great British people, voted for us for over 14 years, and we did not keep our promises, despite promising time after time that we would do those things,” she said.
