New Delhi: Following the BJP’s notice against Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha for allegedly giving false information in his speech, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju warned that anyone misleading the House will face consequences under the rules.
The notice, submitted by BJP member Bansuri Swaraj, pointed out inaccuracies in Gandhi’s speech during the debate on the President’s Address.
Rijiju stated that action was requested from the Speaker in response to Gandhi’s remarks, which included alleged falsehoods about various issues such as the Agnipath scheme and compensation in Ayodhya.
He emphasized that rules apply equally to all members and nobody, regardless of their background, can expect special treatment.
“If someone tries to mislead the House, they won’t get away easily. The rules will address the situation,” Rijiju affirmed.
Under Rule 115 of the Speaker’s guidelines, any member can inform the Speaker in writing about errors or inaccuracies in statements made by ministers or other members, providing evidence to support their claims before discussing it in the House.
