Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) displayed their strength by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2024 on Tuesday in Ahmedabad. Batting first, SRH had a tough day, getting all out for 159 runs. Mitchell Starc led KKR’s bowling attack with three crucial wickets.
In response, KKR’s skipper Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer dominated the chase, scoring unbeaten 58 and 51 runs respectively. They led KKR to victory in just 13.4 overs with eight wickets to spare, securing a spot in the IPL 2024 final.
After the match, Team KKR, along with their co-owner and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, took a victory lap inside the Narendra Modi Stadium to thank their fans. During the lap, Shah Rukh Khan delighted the crowd by performing his signature pose. His children, Suhana and AbRam, were seen giggling and smiling at each other.
“We are elated by the performance. The responsibility was important, and we stood up for each other. The rejuvenation was crucial for us. When you travel so much, it’s important to stay in the present. Today was the day we had to maximize, and we did it,” said KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer after the match. He praised the bowlers for their excellent performance, saying, “The way every bowler stepped up and took wickets was essential. The attitude and approach of all bowlers were to take wickets, and they succeeded. Our varied bowling line-up is mesmerizing.”
SRH will now face the winner of the Eliminator match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Chennai on Friday, while KKR prepares for the final.
