Taiwan experienced a series of aftershocks late Monday and early Tuesday following a powerful earthquake, but fortunately, only minor damage was reported, and there were no casualties. The major chipmaker TSMC confirmed that its operations remained unaffected by the seismic activity.
Hualien, a predominantly rural and thinly populated area, was struck by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on April 3, resulting in the loss of at least 14 lives. Since then, the region has been rocked by over 1,000 aftershocks.
The recent aftershocks have caused buildings in various parts of northern, eastern, and western Taiwan, including the capital city of Taipei, to sway. The largest tremor measured 6.3 magnitude and was characterized by its shallow depth.
Despite the unsettling nature of these aftershocks, authorities have reassured the public that the impact has been minimal, with only minor damage reported. Efforts to monitor seismic activity and ensure the safety of residents continue as Taiwan remains vigilant in the aftermath of the recent earthquake.
