There is widespread speculation about MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL) following Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) exit from the 2024 season. The five-time champions were knocked out after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, ending their playoff hopes.
CSK had a challenging season, with Dhoni playing mainly as a lower-order finisher under the new captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad. Despite the uncertainty, there has been no official statement about Dhoni’s future. Recently, videos of him taking a bike ride around Ranchi went viral on social media.
In the crucial match against RCB, Dhoni was at the crease with the game in a delicate balance. However, he was caught in the deep off Yash Dayal’s bowling, unable to finish the match. Former India batter Aakash Chopra commented that if Dhoni had remained unbeaten, CSK might have won and secured a playoff spot. “MS Dhoni kept CSK alive along with Ravindra Jadeja. Maybe this was the last time we saw Dhoni. He hit the longest six of this season – 110 meters, and two fours on the leg side. If he hadn’t gotten out, he would have taken CSK to the playoffs,” Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Chopra also noted the difficulty of the situation, with CSK needing to chase down a challenging target of 201 runs. Although Jadeja was hitting sixes consistently, Yash Dayal bowled effectively in the final over. With only 17 runs needed, Dayal’s performance ensured RCB’s victory, allowing them to progress.
The future of MS Dhoni in the IPL remains uncertain, leaving fans and analysts eager for updates on the cricket legend’s plans.
