The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police prevented a major accident after a bus carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims lost control on National Highway 44 in the Ramban district on Tuesday. The bus, traveling from Amarnath to Hoshiarpur, suffered a brake failure. The pilgrims were from Punjab.
The bus almost met with disaster, but the quick action of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police saved lives. The bus, carrying 40 pilgrims, couldn’t stop due to a brake malfunction near Nachlana, Ramban district.
According to a video on social media, many pilgrims tried to escape the moving bus. The security forces immediately reacted and stopped the bus from plunging into a gorge by placing rocks under its tires.
Six men, three women, and a child were among the 10 injured. The Army’s Quick Reaction Teams provided medical assistance and first aid to the injured.
The dramatic footage shows passengers leaping from the moving bus while security forces raced alongside, trying to prevent the bus from falling into the gorge.
In May, 22 people died and at least 50 were injured after a bus fell into a gorge in Jammu’s Akhnoor. That bus, carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, had over 80 passengers on board.
