RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his mention of ‘mangalsutra’ during a recent speech, where PM Modi accused the Congress, an RJD ally, of planning to seize the belongings of common people, including women’s ‘mangalsutras’. Tejashwi Yadav’s reaction came during a media interaction in Patna, where he highlighted the financial struggles faced by most women due to the rising prices of gold.
Yadav also brought up the tragedies that have occurred during PM Modi’s tenure, such as the casualties resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the aftermath of demonetization, the Pulwama terror attack, and clashes with Chinese troops at the border. He questioned PM Modi about the responsibility for the hardships faced by women during these crises, metaphorically referring to the loss of ‘mangalsutras’.
Addressing the importance of focusing on substantial issues during elections, Yadav emphasized the impracticality of discussing ‘mangalsutras’ when the majority of women can’t afford gold due to its high prices.
Expressing confidence in the electoral prospects of RJD and its allies, Yadav predicted victories in all five seats scheduled for polling in the second phase of Bihar elections. He reiterated the electoral choice as between the NDA and what he termed as “INDIA”.
Yadav indirectly referred to former Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, known as Pappu Yadav, who is contesting independently after being denied a Congress ticket. Yadav characterized the electoral contest as between the NDA, which he sees as a threat to the Constitution, and what he identifies as “INDIA,” representing those who aim to safeguard the Constitution. Though not explicitly naming Pappu Yadav, whom he accuses of being the “B-team of BJP”, Yadav made it clear that supporting INDIA is the opposition to the NDA.
