Prime Minister Narendra Modi firmly declared during an election rally in the Zaheerabad Lok Sabha constituency of Telangana that he would safeguard the existing reservations for Dalits, Adivasis, and OBCs, ensuring they would not be extended to Muslims on religious grounds as long as he was alive. He criticized the Congress for allegedly treating the Constitution with disdain, citing instances such as the removal of drawings from the Constitution gifted by B R Ambedkar. Modi accused the Congress of promoting appeasement politics during its rule, particularly in undivided Andhra Pradesh, where he claimed the party granted reservations to Muslims under the guise of backward class quotas.
Modi condemned what he perceived as a historic disrespect towards the Constitution by successive Congress governments, alleging that Indira Gandhi’s administration during the Emergency era and her predecessors had undermined its sanctity. He accused the Congress of attempting to exploit religious sentiments for electoral gain, insinuating that the party’s actions were a betrayal of the Constitution’s foundational principles.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of upholding the Constitution’s integrity, asserting that his government would celebrate its 75th anniversary in a grand manner. He criticized the Congress for its alleged financial mismanagement and misleading tactics, citing instances such as the ‘Kaleshwaram scam’ and the circulation of a doctored video involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Modi accused the Congress of planning to impose a 55 percent inheritance tax if elected to power, warning against what he deemed detrimental economic policies.
Modi also targeted Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, insinuating that funds collected in the state were being diverted to Delhi, and criticizing the Congress for its alleged inaction on corruption scandals. He reiterated his commitment to combating dynastic politics, corruption, and vote bank politics, while accusing the Congress of engaging in these practices during its tenure. The Prime Minister dismissed allegations that his government would alter the Constitution or abolish reservations, attributing such claims to political propaganda.
