In a dramatic end to the IPL 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chinnaswamy Stadium, MS Dhoni was left waiting for a handshake from the home team after their thrilling victory. Dhoni, after being dismissed in the final over when CSK needed 11 runs to secure a playoff spot, showed sportsmanship by attempting to congratulate the RCB players. However, caught up in their celebrations, the RCB team did not notice Dhoni’s gesture, leaving him to shake hands with the support staff before heading to the dressing room.
Virat Kohli was the only RCB player who later sought out Dhoni, going into the CSK dressing room to meet him. Another notable figure, former RCB star Chris Gayle, also reached out to Dhoni. Gayle, who was at the stadium to watch the match, caught up with Dhoni and his ex-teammate Dwayne Bravo. A video shared by RCB on social media showed Gayle getting a CSK jersey as a memento.
Dhoni’s dismissal came after he hit a massive 110-meter six but was then deceived by a slower ball from Yash Dayal. This crucial moment sealed CSK’s fate, as they lost by 27 runs and finished fifth on the points table, missing out on the playoffs. Despite the disappointment, Dhoni’s sportsmanship and the gestures from Kohli and Gayle highlighted the mutual respect among cricket legends.
