Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized Rahul Gandhi for tearing up a government ordinance in 2013. On Thursday, Modi attacked the Congress and the Gandhi family for changing the Constitution while they were in power. He claimed that four generations of the Gandhi family altered the Constitution. When asked about the opposition’s claim that the BJP plans to change the Constitution if they win 400 Lok Sabha seats, Modi responded that it was Jawaharlal Nehru who made the first amendment to limit freedom of speech. He mentioned that Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi also changed court rulings through amendments.
Modi criticized Rahul Gandhi for publicly tearing up the ordinance from the Manmohan Singh government in 2013, saying the Gandhi family controlled the government from behind the scenes. He added that the Cabinet reversed its decision after Rahul’s actions.
Modi said that four generations of the Gandhi family damaged the Constitution and promised not to let them change its core principles. He emphasized that he would not allow reservation based on religion, reminding that the country was already divided once on religious grounds.
The opposition claims that Modi’s government wants to change the Constitution. The BJP accuses Congress of wanting to take away reservation quotas from SC, ST, and OBC communities and give them to Muslims. Rahul Gandhi warned that if the BJP wins the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and tries to change the Constitution, it will lead to nationwide unrest.
